Bengals rookie DE Joseph Ossai will have knee surgery that will conclude his season.

Cincinnati will be without Ossai, a third-round pick who was a breakout star throughout training camp and in the team’s first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tom Brady was sacked by Ossai in his preseason debut.
With the Bengals, he was a steady presence, and they had great expectations for him in 2021.
In 29 games, the 21-year-old had 11.5 sacks, two interceptions, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups, 165 tackles, and 30 tackles for a loss.
Spence has played in the NFL for four seasons, three of which he spent with the Buccaneers before joining the Washington Football Team for the 2019 season.
In 2020, he signed with the New Orleans Saints, but due to a ruptured ACL, he missed the full season.
The 27-year-old re-signed with the Saints this summer, but was released after his first preseason appearance.
Spence has 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two pass breakups, 37 tackles, three tackles for a loss, and sixteen quarterback hits in 41 career games.

10 takeaways from the Bengals’ win over the Buccaneers, according to Dehner Jr.

TAMPA, Fla. — Returning on the road and playing real football games was a rewarding experience.
Cincinnati accomplished one of three steps toward being ready for the season opener against Minnesota by defeating the Super Bowl champions 19-14.
Even though the starters didn’t play much and Joe Burrow didn’t play at all in the opener, there was still plenty to watch and learn from.
This was the night for you if you were drafted in 2020 or 2021 and had no NFL experience.
The rookies provided a slew of reasons to cheer.
Here are some of the things I noticed in Tampa that stuck out in the context of the season.1.

(AP) — Tom Brady and the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 19-14 to the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL preseason opener.
The Bengals’ Chris Evans scored on a 1-yard run to cap a long drive, while kickers Evan McPherson and Austin Seibert combined for four second-half field goals.
Cincinnati didn’t have quarterback Joe Burrow on the field, but neither did Brady or the rest of Tampa Bay’s regulars.
Brady had six snaps and completed one throw for nine yards.
He’d also been fired before.

‘You better win,’ says Zac Taylor as the Bengals enter the season of truth.

Bengals president Mike Brown, director of player personnel Duke Tobin, head coach Zac Taylor, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan made their way through the cavernous East Club Lounge of Paul Brown Stadium on Monday during the annual media luncheon kicking off the season.
This time of year, as much as the fake turtle soup served later, is filled with much of the same hopeful rhetoric.Another word floated through the proceedings as well: urgency.”Extreme urgency,” Taylor stated forcefully as he began an answer about the pressing importance of this season.
After Green was injured, his first two seasons as one of the NFL’s youngest coaches were marred by unending bad luck, hurdles, and excuses.
Some are legitimate, some are self-inflicted, and many are debilitating.
They totaled 6-25-1.Perhaps it was the stench of in-person interviews or the aftershocks of a fairly positive offseason, but they came at this point with the prior excuses recognized, accounted for, and, for the most part, no longer an issue.
The rebuild’s essential growing pains are now behind us.
Brown believes the moment has come to examine this idea objectively. “He’s got a couple years to get his feet on the ground, get established,” Brown said of Taylor.
“We have a team that is made up of three-quarters of his players, as well as new players that have joined since he arrived.”

Ken Anderson and Ken Riley have been inducted into the Bengals’ first Ring of Honor.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Thursday that Ken Anderson and Ken Riley will join Paul Brown and Anthony Munoz in the team’s inaugural Ring of Honor class.
Season ticket holders chose Anderson and Riley from a list of 17 former Bengals players.
The Bengals chose Brown, a co-founder and longtime coach, and Munoz, a Hall of Fame offensive tackle, as the class’s first two members earlier this year.
“We have a lengthy history of players, many of whom have been outstanding.”
In a statement, Bengals owner Mike Brown stated, “Ken Anderson and Ken Riley are at the top of that list of great players.”
“These were the type of players we like to think make up our team.”
I’m glad they’re the fans’ favorite.” Anderson has spent the most time with the Bengals (16 seasons), more than any other player in franchise history.
With 32,838 passing yards, the former quarterback holds the record for most passing yards in franchise history.
He led the Bengals to their first Super Bowl victory in 1981, winning the NFL MVP and passing title in the process.
Throughout his 15 seasons with the Bengals, Riley appeared in a Bengals-record 207 games.
With 65 career interceptions, the former cornerback ranks fifth all-time in the NFL.
He is the Bengals’ all-time leader in interception return yards (596) and touchdown interception returns (five).
The Ring of Honor induction ceremony for Cincinnati will take place during halftime on September 1.
The Bengals will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 30.
