Jason Lloyd likes five things and doesn’t like five things about the Cleveland Browns – The Athletic

With the first kickoff that matters still three weeks away, here are five things I like about the Browns and five things that worry me…1
This is the most talented bunch of Browns running backs I’ve ever seen, dating back to the Earnest Byner/Kevin Mack era of the 1980s.
Of course, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are excellent, but DErnest Johnson is a key third back, and rookie sixth-round pick Demetric Felton is developing into a versatile weapon.
The focus will be on Chubb and Hunt, but this is perhaps the strongest group of running backs in the NFL.
Because of Feltons versatility as a fourth back/seventh receiver/return specialist, the Browns should be able to carry all four on the last 53.2
The offensive line is 1A if running back is the deepest position.
The Browns have at least a dozen offensive lineman capable of making an NFL roster.
The Browns will most likely carry nine players, according to my partner Zac Jackson: the five starters, Chris Hubbard, Michael Dunn, James Hudson III, and Nick Harris.
Dunn isn’t a lock at this stage, but following his great end last season, he appears to be one of the favorites.
He’s had a sore back all week, but it’s nothing serious.

During the Browns vs. Giants game, Twitter throws jokes about Joe Thomas’ armpit perspiration.

Joe Thomas was in the booth for the Browns versus. Steelers game.
He didn’t appear to be playing in the Giants’ preseason game on Sunday afternoon, but it appeared like he was.
What is the reason for this?
He was dripping wet since he was working up a sweat.
MORE: Justin Fields explains NFL speed comment Thomas recognized the large sweat stains under his armpits during the first half of the Browns’ 17-13 win over the Giants.
He displayed them to show the crowd how humid it was in Cleveland on Sunday.

It felt like it was 90 degrees, so each team had to set up mist fans on the sidelines.
It’s easy to see why Thomas was having difficulties keeping his calm.
Despite this, fans continued to make jokes about Thomas’ pit sweat.
Many people commented on his health and made jokes about the former Browns offensive tackle: look at Joe Thomas right now.

During his 11-year tenure with the Browns (2007-2017), Thomas was recognized as one of the top left tackles in the NFL.
Following his retirement, Thomas gained notoriety for losing 50 pounds in an effort to slim down, and he has since gone on to become a popular NFL Network analyst.

Preview, team news, and predictions for the New York Giants vs. Cleveland Browns game on August 22nd, 2021.

The New York Giants have endured a grueling training camp, which has already resulted in two brawls.
One was against their own offense and defense, which left starting quarterback Daniel Jones at the bottom of the standings.
Joe Judge, the head coach of the New York Giants, made the entire team run as if they were in training to be Navy SEALs.
The second incident occurred on Friday, when New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard and Cleveland Browns cornerback Troy Hill threw punches at each other during a joint practice ahead of their preseason matchup in Week 2.
New York may struggle in their upcoming game based on joint practices.
Cleveland produced a scoring drive during 11-on-11 drills, while the Giants had a quick three-and-out.
After today’s joint practices, #Giants WR Sterling Shepard and #Browns CB Troy Hill squared up and were ready to throw punches.
John Ross appears to have stepped in and gotten Shepard out of there.
This is the final few seconds.

Joe Judge has yet to make a decision on the playing time of other starters, including quarterback Daniel Jones.
CB Keion Crossen, CB Josh Jackson ll, and OL Ted Larsen, all new roster additions, could see plenty of action.
After suffering a concussion, QB Clayton Thorson was dismissed and replaced by QB Brian Lewerke, who should play the most of the second half.
RIDICULOUS catch by Donovan Peoples-Jones pic.twitter.com/2ivENKXaa2 — Billy Heyen (@BillyHeyen) August 14, 2021 Cleveland Browns HC Kevin Stefanski will rest most of his starters after witnessing good work from them in joint practice.
With Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. presumably out, expect WR Donovan Peoples-Jones to continue to shine on the field.
DT Malik McDowell (who might be cut by Tuesday if he doesn’t make an impact) and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (who is hoping to rise up the depth chart after leading the club in tackles last week) are two players to keep an eye on on defense.
Cleveland Browns 27-17 Cleveland Browns The Browns are 4.5-point favorites at -200 to win the game.
They have a chance to win by at least ten points.
After leading the Browns in tackles and tackles for loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars (8 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack), rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could be the game’s MVP.
After a total of 28 carries for 41 yards (1.6 yards per carry), Cleveland’s run game has to improve.
When they sort out the bottom of their WR depth chart in the second half, the New York Giants are expected to throw the ball more.
With Barkley out, RB Corey Clement could get a plenty of carries in the first quarter.

Sean McVay of the Rams and Kevin Stefanski of the Browns are among The Athletic’s NFL 40 under 40.

Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns are two of four head coaches named to The Athletic’s second annual NFL 40 under 40 list, which includes some of the league’s brightest young off-field emerging stars.
Aside from head coaches, the list includes a wide range of NFL roles, from coordinators like Carolina’s Joe Brady to media workers like ESPN’s Mina Kimes.
Michael Clay, the special-teams coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, is the league’s youngest coordinator at the age of 29.
That individual had to be younger than 40 before Aug. 1 to be considered for the list, which took into account opinions from those working in and around the NFL.
In order to promote up-and-comers, certain well-known names were left off the list.

Lawrence makes his preseason debut with a sack and a turnover in a loss to the Browns.

MARK LONG, AP Pro Football Writer JACKSONVILLE, Fla. AP National Sports JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
(AP) — Trevor Lawrence’s professional debut began with a sack and a fumble, hardly ideal but not alarming for the Jaguars.
The No. 1 overall choice in the NFL draft bounced back with a couple of outstanding throws and a 23-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns in his first preseason game.
Lawrence took over for Gardner Minshew and threw for 71 yards on 6 of 9 passes in two series.
The most significant aspect for Jacksonville is that the former Clemson standout was able to leave TIAA Bank Field in good health.
Once Lawrence was sacked on the team’s opening play and recovered his fumble, there had to be some concern.

Troy Hill’s amazing journey from Youngstown, Ohio to the Cleveland Browns – The Athletic

Troy Hill’s ticket to a better life — and possibly the one that could save his life — went unused the first time around.Feeling a little like he’d been duped by his family, but largely that he wasn’t ready to leave the only place he’d ever known at the age of 15, Hill skipped his one-way flight from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles and instead stayed out all night on the streets of the south end of Pittsburgh.
He wasn’t thinking about the NFL at the moment, mostly because he wasn’t thinking about anything other than the next night’s game.
Hill wasn’t academically able to play high school football one year after starting at Chaney High School, and he wasn’t coming to school at all most days.”When I did go,” Hill recalled, “I was generally asleep in class.” Hill’s mother, Sandra Jennings, felt her son needed a change, so she requested her brother, Jim Gilmer, to take Troy away from the house she shared with her mother and move him to California.
In the early 1970s, Gilmer departed Youngstown for the military, eventually settling in Southern California.
Hill had previously aided family members by housing them for a few weeks or even months, and when he learned that his mother and uncle were planning a longer-term arrangement, he purposefully missed the flight. He wasnt going anywhere, which was exactly the problem at the time and now makes his story all the more extraordinary.
Hill has had no qualms about revealing any aspect of his experience, from high school to college to now, as he prepares to begin his seventh NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns have unveiled vintage outfits to commemorate their 75th anniversary.

This season, Tim Hasselbeck and Booger McFarland give their clubs a chance to erase their Super Bowl droughts.
(1:39) The Cleveland Browns have announced that they would wear vintage uniforms this season to commemorate their 75th season.
The outfit commemorates Cleveland’s first season in the All-American Football Conference in 1946.
White jerseys with brown numbers and an orange shadow-box with white leggings will be worn.
Numbers will be on the sides of the helmets, and gray facemasks will be worn.
In a press statement, Browns executive vice president JW Johnson remarked, “The Browns are one of those iconic franchises in all sports, not just the NFL.”
“We wanted to pay homage to the past and the players who paved the road for the club we have today,” he said. The Browns were a dominant franchise in those uniforms.
Before the AAFC was disbanded and the Browns joined the NFL, they won three of the next six NFL championships (1950-55).
The current Browns were a wild card club last season and are attempting to make the playoffs for the first time since making the playoffs five years in a row from 1985 to 1989.
The Browns have yet to announce which games they will wear this look in.

Jason Lloyd’s mailbag includes the Browns being protected in an expansion draft, the Cavaliers’ future, and Indians extension prospects.

On Reddit, someone asked, “Who would the Browns leave unprotected if the NFL were to create an expansion team in the same manner the NHL is introducing the Kraken this year?”
— Riley C.I try to keep away from Reddit as much as possible, and I despise hypotheticals that will never happen.
So let’s get started!
(Actually, this is just giving you all another reason to yell at me.) Let’s say the Browns can protect 26 players plus all rookies and second-year men under these circumstances.
That means Jedrick Wills Jr., Jedrick Wills, Jedrick Wills, Jedrick Wills, Je
