Etienne was enthralled by the No.
The Jaguars selected ex-Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 25 pick, 24 spots after the Jaguars selected ex-Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 25 pick.

Holder: After his performance against the Jaguars, Jameis Winston will be named the Saints’ starting quarterback.

NEW ORLEANS — On Monday night, the world watched as Drew Brees’ replacement was crowned.
When the Green Bay Packers visit New Orleans in Week 1, Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback. If not…well, there is no “if not” scenario. There was never a point this offseason when I felt Taysom Hill would beat Winston out for the position.
Throughout training camp and the first two preseason games, I’ve been anticipating Winston’s “win the job” moment.
Several Who Dats were perplexed as to why Winston and Hill’s debate remained a debate at all.
Hill gave a viable force to Winston during the preseason version of “Monday Night Football,” but Winston’s dominating performance should push Hill back into the Swiss Army Knife role, which will still serve as a key asset to the offense.Winston detonated during the Saints 23-21 win against the Jags in the preseason version of “Monday Night Football.”
He had a passer rating of 157.5 after completing nine of ten passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Can I say that was reminiscent of Brees?
It had been
Nevertheless, you must consider that this occurred in the first quarter of a preseason game against the NFL’s weakest club last season.

In a meaningless preseason game, Urban Meyer puts Trevor Lawrence in jeopardy.

During the Jaguars’ preseason game against the Saints, head coach Urban Meyer took a lot of heat for keeping quarterback Trevor Lawrence in harm’s way.
When the Jaguars used the No. 1 overall pick,
They intended to get a generational quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick on Trevor Lawrence.
The most difficult thing would be getting him through his rookie season without injury.
Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, the preseason has already demonstrated Lawrence’s vulnerability.
At this rate, he might not even make it through the season.
Lawrence was thrown around during Monday’s preseason game against the Saints.

While battling to get the offense rolling, he went 14-of-23 for 113 yards.
While Trevor Lawrence’s performance was subpar, NFL Twitter was more concerned about his health if head coach Urban Meyer insisted on keeping him in the game.

Why would you keep him out in the second quarter of a PRESEASON game?
For the past two weeks, OL has been awful.

He shouldn’t expect anything less than 100% from his young quarterback.
Meyer must recognize that he lacks a functional offensive line capable of protecting his most important weapon.

Given the Jaguars’ roster, it’s possible that he’d be better off not being in the firing line every week.
The former Clemson Tiger will play one more preseason game against the Cowboys to acclimate to the NFL level.
It will become much more real when the Jaguars face the Texans to start the season.

The Jaguars are Urban Meyer’s willing students as he learns how to be an NFL coach.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA (AP) —
— Listening to Urban Meyer is all it takes to realize he isn’t your ordinary NFL head coach.
Meyer’s Jaguars training camp practices simply sound different. Consider the dramatic pre-practice speeches, which are sometimes delivered by an assistant coach but are frequently delivered by Meyer himself.
Or consider Meyer’s recent post-stretch speech, which lasted more than five minutes following a particularly intense workout.
Then there are the daily practice reports from Meyer’s chief of staff, Fernando Lovo, which are broadcast on the field over speakers. Meyer hosted his first Winner-Loser day of camp in early August, when every competitive drill was scored individually or for the offense or defense.
Lovo not only announced the winners of each drill, but he also counted down the seconds of each phase and gave instructions to the players on what would happen next.
The Ohio State and University of Florida customs included having a master of ceremonies.
It’s rare for the NFL, where most workouts are a cacophony of music, whistles, and artificial crowd noise. Meyers’ practices are also unique, especially if you follow the former college coach from drill to drill. While it’s not uncommon for a head coach to get hands-on with players to teach a technique, only in Jacksonville will you hear the head coach.
Meyer’s success in his first NFL job, though, will most likely be determined by how well he integrates the habits and motivational techniques he employed to help Florida and Ohio State become national champions with the realities of teaching professional athletes.

Urban Meyer of the Jaguars has a deadline to name either Trevor Lawrence or Gardner Minshew as the starting quarterback.

When Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell say that rookie and first-round draft pick Trevor Lawrence isn’t a certainty to be the team’s starting quarterback over Gardner Minshew when the Jaguars open the regular season against the Houston Texans on Sept. 1, practically no one believes them.
Meyer told reporters on Friday that he’s still talking about the depth chart with Bevell and passing-game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, and that he thinks he knows when he’ll make his final decision for Week 1.
Meyer told ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, “I do [have a timeline] in my head, but it’s a daily dialogue that the three individuals are having.”
“It could [continue until the last preseason game], but I’d rather not.”
To prevent injury concerns, coaches throughout the NFL are expected to bench their starters that weekend.
Meyer said he’ll select which of his two best quarterbacks will start Monday’s exhibition game against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.
Meyer appears to be seeking to boost Minshew’s trade market value through a competition that few are taking seriously.
Nevertheless, given that this is the same coach who felt giving Tim Tebow reps at tight end this summer wasn’t a complete waste of time, everyone should think he’s serious about anointing Minshew as the starting quarterback before Labor Day.

After making a comeback in the NFL as a tight end, Tim Tebow was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tim Tebow was dismissed by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday, ending his attempt to return to the NFL after an eight-year absence.
The quarterback-turned-tight end, a first-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in 2020, thanked the Jaguars for the opportunity following the transfer.
“Thankful for the highs and lows, opportunities and setbacks,” Tebow wrote on Twitter.
“I’ve never wanted to make decisions because I’m afraid of failing, and I’m happy for the opportunity to have pursued a dream…” Grateful for the highs and lows, possibilities and disappointments.
I’ve never wanted to make decisions because I’m afraid of failing, and I’m happy for the opportunity to pursue a dream.
— Tim Tebow (@TimTebow) August 17, 2021 NFL teams must reduce their rosters to 85 players by 4 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, and Tebow was a longshot.
In the Jaguars’ 23-13 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, he didn’t have a catch.
The 34-year-old was targeted once, but the throw was tipped at the scrimmage line.
Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winner and two-time national champion at Florida, started 14 games for the Broncos from 2010 to 2011, having an 8-6 record.
He threw for 2,422 yards on 47.9% of his passes, with 17 scores and nine interceptions, and added 989 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
The New York Jets acquired Tebow and a seventh-round selection pick in March 2012 in exchange for two 2021 draft picks, a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder.
In 2012, he was waived by the Jets after attempting eight passes and completing six of them.
Tebow was then signed by the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, although neither team used him in a game.
Tebow turned to baseball after his football stint, signing with the New York Mets in September 2016.
With the Mets’ low-A Columbia Fireflies organization, he hit a home run in his first professional at-bat.
Tebow hit.223 with a.299 on-base percentage,.338 slugging percentage, 107 runs, 48 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 107 RBIs, and five stolen bases in 287 games during three minor league seasons.
In February, he announced his retirement from baseball and in May, he signed with the Jaguars to play under Urban Meyer, his college coach.
