In the wake of AJ McCarron’s season-ending injury, Josh Rosen is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons have signed former first-round pick Josh Rosen to replace AJ McCarron and compete for the team’s open backup quarterback position.
McCarron, who joined the Falcons in April, tore his right ACL in the second quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Dolphins in Miami, effectively ending his season.
Falcons coach Arthur Smith stated earlier Monday that the team will work out and add a quarterback to compete with Feleipe Franks as Matt Ryan’s backup.
He was candid about the Falcons’ quarterback situation.
“That doesn’t mean that if we add someone this week, we won’t add someone else next week,” Smith added.
“We’ll keep an eye on it,” Smith said, adding that whoever they sign may play in Sunday’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Ryan and the rest of Atlanta’s starters have yet to play in the preseason, but Smith said they’ll approach this week as if everyone is getting ready to play, then analyze the true plan at the end of the week.
It would theoretically include Rosen, but if he were to play against the Browns, he would most likely be working with a limited playbook as he needs to master the terminology and then as much as he can.
“I just believe it’s unfair to throw someone out there and say, ‘Here’s the whole game plan,’ and expect them to be able to operate,” Smith said.
“So, depending on who we sign, you know they’ll be ready to go,” said Rosen, who has played for five NFL teams since being picked 10th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.
In 13 games as a rookie in Phoenix, the former UCLA standout completed 55.2% of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
During Rosen’s rookie season, the Cardinals fired Steve Wilks and chose Kliff Kingsbury as his replacement.
Using the No
The Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 and then traded Rosen to Miami, where he started three games and completed 53.2% of his passes for 567 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions.
Rosen was released by Miami in September 2020 after the team selected Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 1 overall pick.
He was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft, however he ended up on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
In December, he was signed off the Buccaneers’ practice squad by San Francisco, but he never played in a game.
Trey Lance was picked No. 1 overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Rosen was dismissed last week as the No. 3 overall pick in 2021.

Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals says he doesn’t have the ‘desire to play right now.’

During an appearance on Sirius XM’s “Lets Go” with Jim Gray, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was asked about his future in the NFL, and he stated that he has no interest in playing this season.
GO TO FOXNEWS.COM FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE “To be honest with you, I simply don’t have the want to play right now,” Fitzgerald told NFL Network.
“I’m not sure how I’ll feel in September, October, or November, but right now, I just don’t feel like it.”
And I believe I must show respect for that.
“Football isn’t one of those games where you want to go out there and play without being totally engaged and ready to prepare and do the things that you need to do.” Fitzgerald hasn’t said whether he’ll return this season over the offseason.
Before to training camp, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury reportedly told Fitzgerald that the ball was in his court.
Meanwhile, Arizona bolstered its defense by bringing in veteran A.J. Hawk.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is expected to start the season opener against the Buccaneers despite his ailment.

Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to return to the field for the team’s season opener on September 1.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Buccaneers are favored by nine points.
Prescott, 28, had a right latissimus strain during training camp and is still rehabbing from an ankle issue from last season.
According to Pelissero, the two-time Pro Bowler has had no “setbacks” in his rehabilitation and might have participated in Saturday’s preseason game against the Texans.
Prescott, on the other hand, will not take any chances and will only toss before the game.
Prescott’s recent update debunks ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s claim that the quarterback might not play at 100% this season.
“He’s not entirely recovered yet.”
“He might not be back all season,” Schefter remarked during halftime of the Chiefs-Cardinals game on ESPN.
Bishop: Dak Prescott’s Heal Turn During the offseason, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million deal.
Prior to his ankle injury in October,
Prescott started five games versus the Giants and threw for 1,856 yards and nine touchdowns.
Before the injury, he was averaging roughly 372 passing yards per game.
In 2019, he threw for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns in his final complete season.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy stated this week that there’s a significant chance Prescott won’t play in the preseason as Dallas prepares for the regular season.
McCarthy added, “He’ll undoubtedly be involved in some type of practice more than this week.”
“But to stand here and say you he’d be full-go and take all the reps, I’m not there yet.” Prescott told NFL Network last week that he wanted to participate in the Cowboys’ joint practice with the Rams and that he expects to play during the regular season.
“I felt like I could go out here,” Prescott said. “Especially when you’ve got the crowd going and the excitement, your adrenaline’s pumping, and you don’t want to miss a day like this.”
“But I’m in terrific shape, and I’ll be ready when it counts.” More NFL coverage:

Carl Lawson is out for the season after suffering an Achilles tear, which is a significant setback for the Jets.

The New York Jets were given a major setback on Wednesday when defensive end Carl Lawson tore his Achilles tendon.
He is now projected to miss the whole 2021 NFL season, according to several publications.
The MRI revealed that #Jets pass-rusher Carl Lawson had torn his Achilles tendon.
After being one of their finest players in camp, he’s gone for the season.
It was a devastating blow.
Lawson signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Jets in March and was anticipated to play a key role in the team’s overhauled defense this season. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 19, 2021
The Jets have been dealt a major blow by Lawson’s injury. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Carl Lawson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and the Auburn alumni has shown to be a steal for the team.
Lawson had an outstanding debut season, recording 8.5 sacks and being named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie team.
In 2018, he experienced a sophomore slump, appearing in only seven games and registering only one sack.
But he bounced back in a big way, and he’s been a consistent contributor for the past two elections.
In the last two years, Lawson has racked up 11.5 sacks.
Lawson’s ability to get to opposing quarterbacks is unrivaled.
In 2019, he hit 22 quarterbacks, and he had 32 last year, which was the most in the league.
Lawson was a great fan of the Jets, especially new head coach Robert Saleh, who made him a significant offer to be the team’s defensive lynchpin this summer.
“If you look at Carl and just look at a piece of paper, he doesn’t check a single box in terms of height, length, size,” Saleh said of Lawson earlier in training camp.
Nevertheless, when you watch the footage, all he does is win over and over again.
You can never have too many guys in the NFL who just win play after play.
That’s why he’s a good fit.
He can be used in any scenario.
He’s a player that lines up and dominates one-on-one, which is especially important in money circumstances when you need someone to make an impact on the game.” Lawson had a great training camp and appeared to be on his way to having a breakout year.
Yet, his tragic injury will not only throw the Jets’ plans into disarray, but it may also have an impact on the defensive end’s career.
I can tell you from personal experience that if you tore your Achilles tendon, you’ll know almost instantly.
The Jets will now attempt to trade for a replacement or investigate the free agency market for a short-term remedy to their pass rush problem. — Damien Woody (@damienwoody) August 19, 2021 I’m hoping for positive news for Carl Lawson, but this is tough considering the type of camp he was having #Jets — Damien Woody (@damienwoody) August 19, 2021

Skai Moore of the Indianapolis Colts chose family above football last year, according to Kravitz.

INDIA, WESTFIELD
— Skai Moore isn’t a professional football player, at least not in the NFL.
He entered the league as an undrafted linebacker out of South Carolina in 2018 and has spent the most of his time on the practice squad in Indianapolis.
Moore, along with former Colts player Marvell Tell and now-former Colt Roland Milligan (who was recently cut), chose to be among the 67 NFL players who opted out last year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moore elected to wait out a season that would have counted toward his crucial pension, which kicks in after three years on either the active roster or injured reserve.
Moore had two years left on his contract at the time, unlike DeForest Buckner or Darius Leonard, who are stars who know that if they sit out a season, they will return with plenty of job security and the promise of future riches.Someone like Moore, a man on the fringes of the roster, had no idea how all of this would play out, how the Colts would react, or how it would affect his scouting report.
“But, it was difficult.”
“That was both difficult and not difficult.”

In a matchup of former Alabama quarterbacks, the Patriots and Eagles get things started.

Bill Belichick is expected to take his time revealing whether Cam Newton or Mac Jones will be the Patriots’ starting quarterback, according to Damien Woody.
(0:57) The second full week of preseason play begins on Thursday, the first of five consecutive days of NFL action.
With only two games remaining until the regular season begins, expect to see more starters and familiar names on the field this week.
The New England Patriots will travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles on Thursday.
Well, it’s a Super Bowl LII rematch, but the better drama is the reunion of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who were formerly teammates in the Alabama quarterback room.
Two more games begin on Friday, including the season’s first ESPN telecast.
The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals is also a collegiate reunion, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes facing off against Kliff Kingsbury, his Texas Tech coach — at least for a series or two.
The majority of the action takes place on Saturday, with ten games scheduled.
The day begins with a matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Bears in the afternoon, followed by a matchup between the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers in the evening.
In real time, Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson could be seen fanboying Packers great Aaron Rodgers.
The Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys face off in Jerry World, while the Las Vegas Raiders (probably the most popular team in Los Angeles) face off against the Los Angeles Rams (who are vying for the title).
Odell Beckham Jr. is a wide receiver who plays for the New York Giants
On Sunday, the New York Giants take on the Cleveland Browns in one of two games, while Trevor Lawrence makes his Monday Night Football debut (kind of) when the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the New Orleans Saints.

The Jaguars’ NFL preseason opening yielded ten observations, including pace of play, WR plurality, Trevor Lawrence, Tim Tebow, and more.

Urban Meyer, a renowned loser as a college coach, knew he’d have to mentally prepare for more defeats as an NFL coach.
It didn’t make Meyer’s offense’s 85-yard first-half total in Saturday’s 23-13 preseason loss to the Browns any easier to watch. What bothered Meyer the most was the offense’s tempo while Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew — the Jaguars’ co-No. 1 wide receivers — were on the field.
We were in the game, but we all know Lawrence is the real starter.

Rod Woodson, whose rugged, athletic performance was ‘before his time,’ is ranked No. 26 on the NFL 100.

The Athletics’ initiative to select the 100 greatest players in football history is known as the NFL 100.
We’ll reveal new members of the list every day until the season starts, starting with the No.
In September, one player will be proclaimed champion.
8.When you think of Rod Woodson, you think of a Hall of Fame defensive back who was both quick and athletic.
If you’re a Steelers fan, you might want to include one of the rare instances the team got it wrong when it came to letting a player go early because it’s still a touchy subject. No one considers Woodson to be the best defensive back in league history, right up there with Deion Sanders, but maybe they should.
