Travis Etienne is out indefinitely with a foot issue, according to the Jaguars.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Bob Self through Imagn Content Services, LLC, Jaguars running back Travis Etienne is sidelined indefinitely with a midfoot strain.
Before leaving Monday’s game against New Orleans, Etienne grabbed one pass for three yards and carried the ball once.
He will need more tests to ascertain the extent of his injuries, and he was seen wearing a protective boot after the game.
Jacksonville chose the former Clemson Tiger in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, making him the second former Tiger to do so.
Etienne was enthralled by the No.
The Jaguars selected ex-Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 25 pick, 24 spots after the Jaguars selected ex-Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 25 pick.
After the game, Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer claimed he didn’t know the extent of Etienne’s injury.
When the Jaguars face the Texans in Week 1, the rookie running back could be out of the lineup.
Etienne and his associates
will attempt to return the Jaguars to the playoffs in 2021 after a three-year absence.
Since 2000, Jacksonville has only made the playoffs three times, and the team has never made it to the Super Bowl.

As the season approaches, the Rams are running low on healthy running backs.

AP National Sports By AP Sports Writer GREG BEACHAM THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.
(AP) — Before the regular season even begins, the Los Angeles Rams are running low on healthy running backs.
And, while Darrell Henderson’s recent thumb injury does not appear to be significant, the Rams must determine quickly whether they are satisfied with the unproven depth behind him.
Henderson was forced to leave practice with a strain to his thumb.
Henderson appears to be on track to be ready for the season opener, when he will be the Rams’ probable starter, owing to the fact that he is the only running back on the team with NFL experience.

Jason Lloyd likes five things and doesn’t like five things about the Cleveland Browns – The Athletic

With the first kickoff that matters still three weeks away, here are five things I like about the Browns and five things that worry me…1
This is the most talented bunch of Browns running backs I’ve ever seen, dating back to the Earnest Byner/Kevin Mack era of the 1980s.
Of course, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are excellent, but DErnest Johnson is a key third back, and rookie sixth-round pick Demetric Felton is developing into a versatile weapon.
The focus will be on Chubb and Hunt, but this is perhaps the strongest group of running backs in the NFL.
Because of Feltons versatility as a fourth back/seventh receiver/return specialist, the Browns should be able to carry all four on the last 53.2
The offensive line is 1A if running back is the deepest position.
The Browns have at least a dozen offensive lineman capable of making an NFL roster.
The Browns will most likely carry nine players, according to my partner Zac Jackson: the five starters, Chris Hubbard, Michael Dunn, James Hudson III, and Nick Harris.
Dunn isn’t a lock at this stage, but following his great end last season, he appears to be one of the favorites.
He’s had a sore back all week, but it’s nothing serious.

Inside the crowded running back rivalry at Virginia Tech, including Devin Taylor’s departure and more takeaways

THE CITY OF BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA
— With ten scholarship running backs on the roster, Virginia Tech has one of the largest running back rooms in the country right now.
While having a single-position place eat up nearly 12% of the team’s scholarships isn’t ideal for roster management, Hokies running backs coach Adam Lechtenberg is unconcerned.
“They work in a competitive setting, and they know that if they have a poor day, someone else will have a wonderful day.”
And we’re all about competitiveness, and our groups are all about competition.” The Hokies are in an unique position at running back, looking to replace Khalil Herbert, who set a single-season school record with 1,182 rushing yards and a 7.7 yards per carry, becoming only the second 1,000-yard rusher since 2012 and the first of the Justin Fuente era.
“You’re going to stick with that guy if he gets the ball and makes a bunch of plays.”
Yet, you must make them all ready to play and then let them figure it out based on their output.

Should you invest in a Clyde Edwards-Helaire post-hype breakthrough in your fantasy football draft?

Clyde Edwards-Helaire was regarded as one of the best running back prospects for the 2020 NFL Draft.
The question was whether the LSU standout’s skillset would transition to the NFL in a three-down role, or if he’d need the ideal landing site.
When the Kansas City Chiefs picked Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd overall choice in the first round, it gave the entire football world cause to believe.
The 5-foot-7, 207-pound rushing back might have made an impact in the NFL regardless of where he landed, but the Chiefs were seen as the best-case scenario by many because of their high-powered offense and head coach Andy Reid’s track record with running backs.
After teammate Damien Williams opted out of the 2020 season, Edwards-Helaire’s stock skyrocketed, giving the rookie a clear road to three-down work.

Earl Campbell’s’sledgehammer running’ earned him a spot on the NFL 100 at No. 66.

The Athletics’ initiative to select the 100 greatest players in football history is known as the NFL 100.
We’ll reveal new members of the list every day until the season starts, starting with the No.
On Wednesday, September 1st, one player will be crowned.
8.Earl Campbell cut to his right after receiving a handoff from Dan Pastorini.
A Los Angeles Rams linebacker who had been chosen to the Pro Bowl six times stood ready for the rookie rushing back in the hole, ready to tackle him for a loss.Isiah Robertson squared up and readied for contact.
Instead of delivering the hit, Robertson absorbed one, burying Campbell’s head hard in his sternum. It was a collision that was felt from the 23-yard line to the 900 section of the world’s first domed stadium.
It was felt all the way from Amarillo, Texas, to South Padre Island, Texas.
From the NFL offices to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it was palpable. As Robertson walked down the green carpet, Campbell kept trucking to his right.
As his jersey was torn off by a would-be tackler, he was finally dragged down 16 yards later by three Rams. “Earl flat ran over him,” an unbelieving Pastorini recalled. On the CBS broadcast, analyst George Allen, a long-time coach, labeled it “sledgehammer running.”
Later, the former Cleveland Browns running back claimed it was the hardest hit he’d ever seen.

On ‘Highway 63,’ Gene Upshaw opened the way for the Raiders at No. 67.

The Athletics’ initiative to select the 100 greatest players in football history is known as the NFL 100.
We’ll reveal new members of the list every day until the season starts, starting with the No.
In September, one player will be proclaimed champion.
8.The Raiders rode Highway 63 to the top of the NFL in their prime. “Highway 63,” as Raiders running back Mark van Eeghen affectionately dubbed left guard Gene Upshaw, would lead the defenders around the edge with Upshaw’s silver-and-black No.
“It’s kind of great when you turn the corner and you look into that defensive back’s face and he looks a little afraid,” Upshaw once said, “because he has 260 pounds going right at him.”
“Just as the ball was about to be snapped, (defensive tackle) Joe Greene leapt up from the other side and ran over to our side.”
‘They’re coming right here, these sons of bitches, they’re coming right here!’ Joe exclaimed.
Snake (Kenny Stabler) is going to audible out of this play because the right side is suddenly wide open, so I’m sitting there in my stance thinking that.
Even the linebacker shifted his weight to our side.
On that side, there was no one.
