In the wake of AJ McCarron’s season-ending injury, Josh Rosen is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons have signed former first-round pick Josh Rosen to replace AJ McCarron and compete for the team’s open backup quarterback position.
McCarron, who joined the Falcons in April, tore his right ACL in the second quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Dolphins in Miami, effectively ending his season.
Falcons coach Arthur Smith stated earlier Monday that the team will work out and add a quarterback to compete with Feleipe Franks as Matt Ryan’s backup.
He was candid about the Falcons’ quarterback situation.
“That doesn’t mean that if we add someone this week, we won’t add someone else next week,” Smith added.
“We’ll keep an eye on it,” Smith said, adding that whoever they sign may play in Sunday’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Ryan and the rest of Atlanta’s starters have yet to play in the preseason, but Smith said they’ll approach this week as if everyone is getting ready to play, then analyze the true plan at the end of the week.
It would theoretically include Rosen, but if he were to play against the Browns, he would most likely be working with a limited playbook as he needs to master the terminology and then as much as he can.
“I just believe it’s unfair to throw someone out there and say, ‘Here’s the whole game plan,’ and expect them to be able to operate,” Smith said.
“So, depending on who we sign, you know they’ll be ready to go,” said Rosen, who has played for five NFL teams since being picked 10th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.
In 13 games as a rookie in Phoenix, the former UCLA standout completed 55.2% of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
During Rosen’s rookie season, the Cardinals fired Steve Wilks and chose Kliff Kingsbury as his replacement.
Using the No
The Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 and then traded Rosen to Miami, where he started three games and completed 53.2% of his passes for 567 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions.
Rosen was released by Miami in September 2020 after the team selected Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 1 overall pick.
He was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft, however he ended up on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
In December, he was signed off the Buccaneers’ practice squad by San Francisco, but he never played in a game.
Trey Lance was picked No. 1 overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Rosen was dismissed last week as the No. 3 overall pick in 2021.

Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers says nothing has changed his mind about Jimmy Garoppolo starting.

Nothing this preseason has convinced 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan that Jimmy Garoppolo is the team’s starting quarterback, as he stated after the team’s 15-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Shanahan, on the other hand, would not commit to Garoppolo as the starting in Week 1 over rookie Trey Lance.
“I’m not going to make that announcement.”
Shanahan, on the other hand, responded, “Good attempt.”
The No. 1 Lance
3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, came into camp as the veteran quarterback’s backup.
Shanahan stated that the quarterback situation is “very much the same” as it was at the beginning of camp.
Lance had 102 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in Sunday’s game.
In his only series, Garoppolo completed 3 of 6 passes for 15 yards and an interception.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is expected to start the season opener against the Buccaneers despite his ailment.

Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to return to the field for the team’s season opener on September 1.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Buccaneers are favored by nine points.
Prescott, 28, had a right latissimus strain during training camp and is still rehabbing from an ankle issue from last season.
According to Pelissero, the two-time Pro Bowler has had no “setbacks” in his rehabilitation and might have participated in Saturday’s preseason game against the Texans.
Prescott, on the other hand, will not take any chances and will only toss before the game.
Prescott’s recent update debunks ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s claim that the quarterback might not play at 100% this season.
“He’s not entirely recovered yet.”
“He might not be back all season,” Schefter remarked during halftime of the Chiefs-Cardinals game on ESPN.
Bishop: Dak Prescott’s Heal Turn During the offseason, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million deal.
Prior to his ankle injury in October,
Prescott started five games versus the Giants and threw for 1,856 yards and nine touchdowns.
Before the injury, he was averaging roughly 372 passing yards per game.
In 2019, he threw for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns in his final complete season.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy stated this week that there’s a significant chance Prescott won’t play in the preseason as Dallas prepares for the regular season.
McCarthy added, “He’ll undoubtedly be involved in some type of practice more than this week.”
“But to stand here and say you he’d be full-go and take all the reps, I’m not there yet.” Prescott told NFL Network last week that he wanted to participate in the Cowboys’ joint practice with the Rams and that he expects to play during the regular season.
“I felt like I could go out here,” Prescott said. “Especially when you’ve got the crowd going and the excitement, your adrenaline’s pumping, and you don’t want to miss a day like this.”
“But I’m in terrific shape, and I’ll be ready when it counts.” More NFL coverage:

To attend college football games, the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers will require vaccination documentation or a negative COVID-19 test.

OREGON, EUGENE
— Oregon and Oregon State were the first Power 5 schools to declare that persons above the age of 12 will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to attend football games.
The decision was taken with public health authorities and “peer institutions in the state,” according to Oregon’s release on Friday. The negative test result must be from within three days of the event.
The mandate takes effect on Monday, ending a week in which state officials warned of fast filling hospitals as daily recorded cases hit new highs.
Several Pac-12 colleges have mandated that students and employees get vaccinated or request for an exemption.
On September 1, the Oregon football team will kick off its season at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, which has a capacity of 54,000.
Fresno State was defeated by a score of 4 to 1.
On September 1, Oregon State kicks off its home schedule at Reser Stadium.
Hawaii is favored by 11 points.
Due to a recent COVID-19 spike, Hawaii became the first major college football school to announce that it would have no fans in attendance for its first sporting activities of the season.
Hawaii’s first home football game is scheduled for September.
Against Portland State, the score was 5 to 1.
The announcements come just a week after Tulane University in New Orleans became the first NCAA Division I institution to require proof of vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events.
Tulane’s decision was prompted by a city rule that also affects the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, although school officials said they were working to implement the policy on their own.

Barry Sanders, an NFL legend, contracts COVID but claims to be symptom-free.

Barry Sanders stated on Friday that he is the newest coronavirus breakthrough case.
Despite being properly vaccinated, wearing a mask, and taking other precautions, the Pro Football Hall of Famer says he tested positive with COVID-19.
GO TO FOXNEWS.COM FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE “Despite being double-vaccinated, wearing a mask, and taking all the measures I could…
COVID was found to be present in my system.
“I don’t have any symptoms, but I’m staying in till the doctors give me the all-clear,” he tweeted.
He stated that he would be ready for the Detroit Lions’ Week 9 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Sanders, who turned 53 this month, spent ten seasons with the Lions between 1989 and 1998, retiring unexpectedly at the age of 30.
The 1997 NFL MVP and 10-time Pro Bowler rushed for 15,269 yards and 99 touchdowns.
He was the league’s leading rusher four times.
MARSHALL FAULK, NFL LEGEND, URGES AMERICANS TO GET INFORMED ABOUT THE COVID-19 VACCINE NFL Alumni Health teamed up with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to launch a national education campaign about the coronavirus vaccination.
In a news statement earlier this month, NFL Alumni CEO Beasley Reece stated, “As a country, we’ve done a lot–individually and collectively–to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.”
“We may be in the’red zone,’ but the war is far from finished.”
“We hope that the voices of our NFL Alumni will urge people who have not yet been vaccinated to discuss their concerns with a health care practitioner, obtain the facts, and make the decision to protect themselves and others,” Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk said last week on Fox News.

“Go see your doctor so you can make an informed decision,” he advised.
“That’s what this is all about,” says the narrator.
If we can convince people to do that, then this campaign and all we’re doing will be worthwhile.
Simply put, stop listening to non-doctors and start listening to your doctors.
“Sit down with a health care practitioner and hear what they have to say about the benefits of doing it versus not doing it, and what the implications are if you do it,” Fox News’ Dan Canova said.

Week 2 at Camp Higher Ground: Cincinnati’s breakout candidates and opinions

INDIA, WEST HARRISON
— The most interesting aspects of preseason practice are first-team position battles, something the Cincinnati Bearcats lack this year.
There were few full unknowns entering Camp Higher Ground a couple of weeks ago, aside from tackle and some later moving along the offensive line.
Even at safety, where multiyear stalwarts James Wiggins and Darrick Forrest left for the NFL, Bryan Cook and Javon Hicks were always going to be the natural successors. For the same reason, picking true breakthrough candidates is difficult.
The Bearcats return 14 starters and another dozen or so regular contributors from last season, eight of whom earned all-conference honors, making for a lot of familiar faces, even if a couple could see their responsibilities expand.
It’s an excellent problem to have.
Is Jerome Ford, who scored eight touchdowns in 2020, a breakthrough prospect now that he’s the starter?

The NFL community responds to Cam Newton’s hot start for the Patriots in Week 2 of preseason.

Despite the absence of key defensive line starters, the Eagles continued to put pressure on Newton, forcing him to step up in the pocket and slither around to make consistent throws.
In the past, the former NFL MVP has had a reputation for taking off running.
Newton stood in the pocket, easily moved around when the pressure was on, and confidently threw strikes all over the field, whether it was to defend himself during a low-stakes exhibition match or as a sign of actual improvement.
Although signing with the Patriots late in the offseason, Newton still managed a 7-8 record as a starter despite having a scarcity of skill-position personnel at his disposal.
Plus, he was sick with COVID-19 during the season and wasn’t himself afterwards.
Thus, if Newton is the great teammate and leader the Patriots have praised since he arrived, it stands to reason that he’ll be even better in 2021.
To be clear, there’s no reason to overreact to what happens in the preseason, but the specific circumstances of Newton’s situation last year, the harsh criticism he received, and Jones’ presence all play a role here.
It was a high-pressure situation, and Newton rose to the occasion.
Cam Newton has been lauded by the NFL community for his excellent preseason performance against the Panthers.
