The Ravens win their 19th straight preseason game, 20-3, tying an NFL record.

AP National Sports By AP Sports Writer STEVE REED CHARLOTTE, N.C.
(AP) — Tyler Huntley threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns as the Baltimore Ravens beat the Carolina Panthers 20-3, tying an NFL record with their 19th straight preseason victory.
The Ravens tied Vince Lombardis Green Bay Packers for a 19-game winning run in exhibition games from 1959 through 1962, with scores by Nate McCrary and TySon Williams.
The Ravens did not have Lamar Jackson in their lineup.
Carolina quarterback Sam Darnold saw his first action as a starter, but he only lasted one series.

Is Justin Fields on his way to become the Bears’ starting quarterback?

Justin Fields has made a lot of noise in his first NFL training camp, and he’ll have even more chances to do so this week in practice.
Fields will receive additional experience with the offensive starters and against the No. 1 defense, according to Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy.
This week, there is only one defense.
The idea is “part of the assessment process,” according to Nagy, who has stated throughout the offseason that Andy Dalton will start for the Bears in Week 1.
Many supporters, however, want to see Fields receive a chance after his preseason and practice performances.
When asked about the situation on Monday, Nagy looked unsure about anointing Dalton the Week 1 starter, though he did indicate Dalton is still the starting quarterback.
“I believe Andy had six plays (in the first preseason game),” says the coach.
With six plays, it’s difficult to say much good or bad.
“We’re going to get him some more snaps this preseason game,” Nagy stated, according to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra.
“And with Justin, I’ll go back to what I said earlier: we want to be able to view live plays and situations, and he’s got that.”
The only thing he can do now is keep doing it, and we must ensure that our strategy allows us to assess how effectively he performs in light of those circumstances.
In the end, we’re going to do whatever is best for the Chicago Bears.” Fields completed 14 of 20 throws for 142 yards and a touchdown in Chicago’s exhibition victory over the Miami Dolphins.
In addition, the former Ohio State standout carried for 33 yards and a touchdown.
Fans saw one play in particular (video here) that demonstrated his ability to create nightmares for defenses.
Nagy is likely to adhere to his plan of starting Dalton in Week 1 as planned.
Dalton, on the other hand, will almost definitely have to play well and win games in order to keep his job.
Nagy will be under a lot of pressure to give Fields a chance if the veteran struggles.

Dak Prescott says he’s not interested in setting an NFL record.

Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys made a great start to the 2020 season before suffering a season-ending injury.
He was having a monster year, throwing for 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 99.4.
Then, in a game against the New York Giants, he was hurt.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOXNEWS.COM SPORTS COVERAGE He still signed a new contract this summer, but he now claims he doesn’t intend to set an NFL passing yardage record in 2021.
“To be honest with you, I don’t want to pass for 6,000 yards,” Prescott stated, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
“It indicates we’re not going to run the ball.”
That suggests we’re probably not doing what we should be doing to be a balanced, winning team.
Certainly, having those numbers and breaking or setting that record or whatever it is would be fantastic.
But it’s not anything I’ve considered.
“Like I previously stated, I want to be the top offense in the league, and I believe the best way for us to do that is if I’m not throwing as many yards, our run game is working, we’re playing complementary football, and we’re winning a lot of games.”
“I believe if thats the case, then ideally I won’t be playing as many fourth quarters trying to come back and perform the two-minute drills we were doing in the first five games that gave me a lot of those numbers,” Prescott said. In five seasons as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, Prescott is 47-27 with 17,634 yards and 106 touchdowns.
Prescott was on pace to throw for 6,760 yards in 16 games if he hadn’t been hurt last season, which would translate to 7,183 yards in the NFL’s new 17-game seasons.
Prescott has a good reason for not wanting to exceed Peyton Manning’s record of 5,477 yards passing for Denver in 2013.
Even so, it would be amazing if he did.

Deshaun Watson is unlikely to travel with the Texans for the preseason opener, according to GM Nick Caserio.

Watson missed roughly a week of training camp practices and finally returned to the field on Monday.
He was out due to ankle and calf problems, according to the official explanation for his absence.
Watson wasn’t getting much work when he was practicing, as he was relegated to fourth-string quarterback and defensive safety at times.
The Texans’ quarterback position is in limbo, as Watson’s trade demand has been exacerbated by a personal crisis involving multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Houston is attempting to establish a new, winning culture under Caserio and new head coach David Culley while talk about the reigning NFL passing leaders’ future continues to swirl.
The Watson debacle isn’t helping that cause at all.
Even if Watson was in good standing with the team, he presumably wouldn’t get many reps in game action during the preseason.
In Houston’s quarterback depth chart, veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor is the anticipated starter.
On Saturday, he should get some reps at Lambeau Field, but most Texans fans will be looking forward to rookie third-round selection Davis Mills’ debut.
Watson’s lack of presence will almost certainly be masked by the Packers’ own quarterback problem.
Jordan Love will play his first NFL snaps, and how he looks as Aaron Rodgers’ ultimate successor — happily for the Texans — will take precedence over any lingering narratives about Watson’s absence.

Michael Irvin attacks the Cowboys’ immunization rate for COVID-19.

With less than a week until the start of training camp, there are reportedly 13 NFL teams with over 85% of their players vaccinated against COVID-19, and one Hall of Famer is slamming his former team for not making the cut.
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin lambasted his former team for failing to meet the vaccine threshold at a Texas event over the weekend, linking the absence of vaccines to a lack of commitment to winning a Super Bowl.
“Are you really thinking about winning a championship if you’re not one of those teams (at the threshold),” Irvin said, according to ESPN.
The exact percentage of vaccinated Cowboys players is unknown, while they are not one of the teams the Associated Press has identified as having less than 50% vaccinated players.
According to the Associated Press, the lowest vaccination rate is among the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Football team, while the highest is among the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Miami Dolphins.
Unvaccinated players will not be allowed to leave the team hotel or eat meals with teammates, according to safety regulations put in place by the NFL and the players’ union last month.
They’ll also have to put on masks and maintain social distance.
According to ESPN, the Cowboys will set up a testing lab at their training camp facilities to test unvaccinated athletes daily and vaccinated players weekly.
Irvin went on to say that vaccinated athletes should try to be their colleagues to get vaccinated as well, regardless of whose team they are on.
“Someone in that dang locker room should say, ‘Hey dude, we’re going to have a chance, are you vaccinated?'” stated Irvin.
“Let’s take a look at this because this might be a two-week healthy person missing games, and this isn’t the NBA.”
It could be it for you in this league.
The correct person is only absent for two weeks.
“Your a– has been kicked out.”
